  • 1 1/4 C granulated sugar
  • 1/2 C all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 C cocoa
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3 C milk
  • 2 T butter
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tsp vanilla

Step 1

Mix sugar, flour, cocoa and salt in medium saucepan. Stir well. Gradually add milk, stirring to mix. Add butter. Stir over medium until pudding boils and thickens.

Beat egg and vanilla tagether in small bowl until smooth. Add 2 or 3 spoonfuls of hot pudding to egg mixture. Stir. Pour into pudding in saucepan, stirring, until mixture returns to a boil. Boil 1 minute. Serve hot, or place plaastic wrap on surface of pudding and cool on counter. After it has cooled, refrigerate until well chilled.
