  • 12 egg yolks
  • 1 1/4 cup sugar
  • 4 cups whole milk
  • 12 egg whites
  • 1/2 pint whipping cream
  • 2 T. vanilla
  • 1 1/3 cups amaretto liqueur
  • nutmeg

Preparation

Step 1

In a medium bowl, beat egg yolks until thick and smooth. In a saucepan, combine beaten yolks, 3/4 cup sugar and 4 cups milk and vanilla. Stir constantly over med-low heat until mixture thickens to a soft custard, 10 - 15 minutes. Cool. In a very large bowl, beat egg whites until frothy. Slowly add remaining 1/2 cup sugar. beat until soft peaks form. Fold cooled custard into egg whites. In a medium bowl, whip cream until blended. Refrigerate several hours or overnight. Before serving eggnog, stir well. Add liqueur, mixing well. Sprinkle with nutmeg. You can substitute bourbon or creme de cacao for the liqueur. You can also add a small ice cream ball of vanilla ice cream on top of eggnog.
