Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1 egg, well beaten
  • 1 2/3 cups cake flour, sifted
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup light sour cream
  • 1/2 cup walnuts, chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon sugar

Preparation

Step 1

Work shortening with spoon until fluffy and creamy.

Gradually add 2/3 cup sugar while continuing to work with spoon until light. Add egg, and mix well. Sift soda, flour, baking powder, and salt together, and add alternately with sour cream and sugar mixture.

Add chopped nuts, and then drop dough by spoonful onto greased or oiled cookie sheet. Press each cookie somewhat flat with bottom of wet glass dipped in granulated sugar-may be colored with food coloring.

Mix 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon and 1 tablespoon sugar together, and sprinkle top of each cookie with this mixture.

Bake at 400 degrees for 10-12 minutes.
