Granny's Sugar Cookies

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla

Preparation
Step 1
Cream together the butter and sugar.
Blend in the egg.
Sift together the dry ingredients and add to mixture.
Divide dough in two parts. Chill 1 to 2 hours so that it will be eady to handle. Roll the dough, one part at a time to 1/8 in. thickness and cut with cookie cuters. Keep other part of the dough chille until ready to roll. Transfer to cookie sheet and bake in preheated, moderate oven (375 degrees) for 8 to 10 min. Frost. if desired, with confectioners sugar and water glaze.
SUGAR-WATER GLAZE:
Blend together 1 cup sifted confectioners sugar and 5 to 6 tsp. water. Add food coloring, if desired. Brush glaze over cookies while still warm.
