Ingredients
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 med-lg eggs
- 1/2 oz red food coloring
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 teasp vanilla
- 1 tblsp cocoa
- 1 teasp salt
- 2 cups flour
- 1 tblsp vinegar
- 1 teasp baking soda
- 2 pkgs cream cheese (softened)
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 1 tblsp vanilla

Preparation
Step 1
Using electric mixer, combine shortening & sugar.
Add eggs, food coloring, buttermilk & vanilla.
In separate bowl, mix cocoa, salt & flour.
Mix both bowls together & blend well.
In a small bowl mix vinegar & baking soda; add to large bowl; blend well.
Pour into 2 greased 9 inch round cake pans.
Bake @ 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
Let cool in pans for 15 minutes before turning out.
Make icing by using electric mixer, cream together cream cheese, powdered sugar & vanilla.
Icing 1 layer of cooled cake, top with second layer & icing cake completely.
