Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1-2 tablespoons light cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cloves
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa
  • 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons al- purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup finely ground hazelnuts

  • 4-6 ounces melted semi-sweet chocolate

Preparation

Step 1

Cream the butter with the sugar until well blended. Stir in the egg yolks, vanilla and cream. Fold in salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, baking powder, cloves, cocoa, flour and hazelnuts and mix to make a soft but firm dough.

Chill about ten minutes.

Preheat oven to 350 F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper. Roll dough to a thickness of 1/4 inch. Cut in star shapes about 2 1/2 to 3 inches in diameter.

Bake until done (about 12 minutes). Cool very well before either dipping in melted chocolate or forming into cookie sandwiches.
