Rhode Island "Spat-Outs"

1 pint sweet milk, 4 tablespoons wheat flour, 2 well beaten
eggs, corn meal to make a stiff batter, and a little salt; spat into round cakes \ inch thick, fry in boiling lard like doughnuts, split and eat warm with butter.
