- 1/4 Cup Crisco
- 1/4 Cup unsalted butter
- 1/4 Cup Brown Sugar
- 1 egg yolk
- 1/2 tsp. Vanilla
- 1 Cup Flour
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 3/4 cup toasted pecans, finely chopped/ground.

Step 1
Preheat oven to 375.
Mix together the shortening and butter, add the brown sugar. Beat until smooth, add egg yolk and vanilla.
In a separate bowl sift flour and salt together, then stir into wet mixture.
Roll into 1" balls. Dip in slightly beaten egg whites. Roll into finely ground pecans.
Place 1" apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 5 minutes, remove from oven. Quickly press thumb gently on top of each cookie. Return to oven and bake 8 minutes longer. Cool.
Place into thumbprints a bit of chopped candied fruit, sparkling jelly, or tinted confectioners frosting.
