Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 c all purpose flour
  • 1/2 c sugar
  • 1/2 c shortening
  • 1/2 c light molasses
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp double-acting baking powder
  • 1 tsp ginger
  • 1 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Preparation

Step 1

1. start early in the day.

2. use a large bowl. sift flour first thing. measure all ingredients.

3. then add;into the bowl dry ingredients stir them the a little,then the rest of the ingredients.

4. with mixer on medium speed beat ingredients until well mixed.cover and refigerate at least one hour.

5. on a lighty floured surface with rolling pin floured, roll dough 1/8 inch thick. with cookie cutter. with cookie cutter cut out gingerbread man,or other shapes.place cookies 1/2 inch apart on cookie sheet. reroll trimmings and cut them out to.

6. in pre heated oven bake at 372* oven about 8 minutes or until brown.with pancake turner remove cookies to to racks to cool. makes about 2 dozen 5 inch cookies.
