Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup butter
  • 1 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 cups flour
  • 3/4 cup hershey's cocoa
  • 1 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 1/3 cup water
  • 1/2 cup hershey's cocoa
  • 2 2/3 cups powdered sugar
  • 6 tbsp butter
  • 5-6 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Preparation

Step 1

1. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla and beat for 1 minute at medium speed.

2. Combine flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt. Add alternately with water to creamed mixture.

3. Pour batter into greased and floured cake pans. Bake at 350F. 35-40 mins for 9" pans and 30-35 mins for 8" pans.

4. Cool for 10 mins; remove from pans and cool completely.

5. Meanwhile, to prepare frosting, combine cocoa and powdered sugar in a bowl. Cream butter with 1/2 cup cocoa mixture in a small mixer bowl. Add remaining cocoa mixture alternately with milk, beating to a spreading consistency. Blend in vanilla.
