I made this for my husband's USMC Detatchment Thanksgiving Potluck. (doubled the rec.)
- I used frozen green beans (I did not read in a prev review that would cause the dish to take longer to cook, I cranked my oven up to 410 deg, my fault for not reading completely)
- I cooked 8 pieces of turkey bacon, cut up 6 of the pieces into bite-sized pieces and added them to the casserole portion. The remaining 2 pieces I cut into about 1.5" diagonal pieces and created a small "lattice" design in the center of the fried onion border.
- I chose to not use Milk, but water instead, and there was absolutely NO negative effect on the taste.
- Also, I miscalculated and only had 3 cans of the Cream of Mushroom Soup, however, I substituted my 4th (CoMS) can with Cream of Chicken and again, no negative taste effects.
-I only added the fried onions on top in a 2" mounded border after the dish had bubbled, then put it back for 10 mins.
The dish had been set out for 7 min and was half gone!! A HIT!!

For a little more in it add chopped water chestnut, also add the onions to the bottow of pan. Great dish......y'all will love it!

Add a can of drained bean sprouts and it will be delicious.
