thumbprint cookies

Ingredients

• 1/2 cup shortening(butter or crisco)
• 1/4 cup brown sugar
• 1 egg yolk
• 1/2 tsp vanilla
• 1 cup flour
• 1/4 tsp salt
• egg whites
• chopped nuts
• jelly

Preparation

Step 1

mix together thoroughly-shortening, brown sugar, yolk and vanilla.

add flour, salt-roll into balls. beat egg whites and dip balls . then into chopped nuts. bake 5 minutes.

press thumb into cookies.

bake 8 minutes-375

put jelly in center
