  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 3 /.4 teaspoon ground red pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons shortening
  • 1/2 cup finely shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1/2 cup finely shredded sharp cheddar cheese

Step 1

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. In large mixing bowl stir together flour, baking powder, red pepper (if using) and salt. Cut in shortening until size of coarse crumbs. Stir in the first 1/2 cup cheese. Add 3/4 cup milk, stirring until dry ingredients are moistened. Form into a ball. On floured surface roll dough to 10” square, 1/4” thick. Brush with remaining milk and sprinkle with remaining cheese, press lightly. Using a 2-1/2” square cutter, cut into sixteen squares. Cut each square in half diagonally to make 32 triangles. Place on greased baking sheets. Bake 12-15 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm. Makes 32.
