Date Filled Cookies with Mrs. Keough's Sugar Cookies

Ingredients

• Cookies:
• 1/2 cup butter
• 1/2 cup crisco
• 2 cups sugar
• 3 eggs
• 7 Tbsp. milk
• 1 tsp soda
• 2 tsp baking powder
• 1/2 tsp salt
• 1 tsp vanilla
• 5 cups flour
• Date Filling:
• 1 # dates cut up
• 3/4 cup sugar
• 1 cup water

Preparation

Step 1

Date filling: Cook dates, sugar and water until smooth.
Can add nuts. Cool.
Cookies:
Cream butter, crisco, and sugar. Add eggs, milk and vanilla. Combine dry ingredients. Add to above mixture. Roll out on a little flour. Cut out and bake at 350 for 7 to 10 minutes.
