Ingredients

  • 1-1/2 lbs. thinly cut round steak
  • 1/3 cup fine dry bread crumbs
  • 1/3 cup parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg, fork beaten
  • 1/3 cup cooking oil
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • mozzarella cheese slices
  • 5-1/2 oz. tomato paste
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 1/2 tsp. oregano
  • 1 tsp. sugar

Step 1

Cut steak into serving size pieces. Place each piece between waxed paper on bread board. Pound with meat mallet to 1/4” thickness.

Mix crumbs and parmesan cheese together.

Dip meat into egg then into crumb mixture. Fry in cooking oil to brown both sides. Transfer to greased 9”X13” baking pan.

Saute onion in pan until soft. Add more cooking oil if necessary.

Add tomato paste, water, salt, pepper, oregano and sugar. Stir. Pour over meat.

Layer cheese over top. Cover. Bake in 350F oven until tender, about 1-1/4 to 1-1/2 hours.
