Preparation Prepare barbecue (medium-high heat)
- 4 1/2 tablespoons mirin
- 1 1/2 teaspoons Chinese five-spice powder, or 4 whole star anise, ground
- 3 tablespoons hoisin sauce
- 3 tablespoons toasted sesame seeds
- 3 tablespoons unseasoned rice vinegar
- 1 1/2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 1/2 tablespoons toasted sesame oil (such as Asian)
- 2 10- to 12-ounce rib-eye steaks
- 4 large shiitake mushrooms, stemmed
- 2 baby bok choy, quartered lengthwise

- 1 3/4 cups crushed chocolate wafer cookies (about 30 cookies from one 9-ounce package)
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (preferably Dutch-process)
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 2 1/2 cups whole milk, divided
- 2 large egg yolks
- 1 large egg
- 4 ounces bittersweet (not unsweetened) or semisweet chocolate, finely chopped

Bring 1 cup orange juice to simmer in heavy small saucepan
- 1 cup plus 3 tablespoons orange juice
- 6 tablespoons dried cranberries
- 3 1/2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 tablespoons white wine vinegar
- 1 tablespoon grated orange peel
- 6 cups mixed baby greens
- 3 oranges, peel and white pith removed, segmented
- 3/4 cup pecans, toasted
Chicken and Basil Stir Fry

Directions Pat chicken pieces dry with paper towels
- 1 1/2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breast halves, cut crosswise into 1/4-inch-thick slices (longer pieces cut crosswise in half again)
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- Coarse salt and ground pepper
- 6 teaspoons vegetable oil
- 1 small onion, halved and cut into 1/4-inch-thick wedges
- 2 bell peppers (red, green, or a mix, ribs and seeds removed), cut into 1/4-inch-wide strips
- 6 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 1/2 cups fresh Thai (see note) or other basil leaves larger leaves, torn in half
- Cooked white rice, for serving (optional)
