Deconstructed Stuffed Cabbage.. loose cabbage rolls

This recipe has all the delicious flavor of the traditional time consuming stuffed cabbage.. without the hassle. Great weeknight meal.

Ingredients

  • 1-1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1/2 onion, chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 red bell pepper,chopped
  • 1 T Worcestershire sauce
  • 3/4 cup uncooked rice
  • 10 oz fresh mushrooms , sliced
  • tablespoon of butter
  • 2 (14 oz) cans stewed tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup white wine
  • 1/2-3/4 head green cabbage, sliced
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper

Preparation

Step 1

In a hot skillet, melt your tablespoon of butter, toss in the fresh sliced mushrooms, and cook until lightly browned; set aside.

Brown meat, onion, red bell pepper, and garlic in a large skillet until meat is cooked. Add Worcestershire, rice, mushrooms, stewed tomatoes,and wine. Mix gently.Season with salt and pepper. Add sliced cabbage and mix again. Put mixture into a large baking dish. Cover and bake at 350F for one hour- one hour and 20 minutes until cabbage is tender and liquid has been absorbed.
