Step 1

In a heavy saucpan melt 1/4 c butter and 4 c thinly sliced onions and cook until golden but not brown. Then add 2 10.5 oz cans beef broth, 1 soup can of water, 3/4 c coca cola, 2 tsp salt and 1/2 tsp vinegar and 1/8 tsp pepper. Cover and simmer 20-25 minutes. Then in a broiler toast 1 side of thickly sliced french breat, turn over and generously sprinkle with parmesan cheese and toast until browned. Ladle soup into deep bowl and top with toast, cheese side up.
