Beef Stew

Great in bread bowls for those winter eventings

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 2 # beef stew meat, cut into 1 inch pieces
  • 1 quart water
  • 1 1/2 tsp seasoned salt
  • 1/8 tsp pepper
  • 1/2 tsp dried Oregano
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 bayleaf
  • 1 can diced tomato
  • 1 can chicken broth
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 3 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 3 carrots, cut into 1 inch pieces
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 c. sliced mushrooms
  • 1 c. peas
  • 1 c. celery, cut into 1 inch pieces

Preparation

Step 1

Brown beef in oil in large kettle. Add water, salt and pepper. Cover and simmer 1 to 2 hours. Add remaining ingredients. Cover and simmer 30 min. or until veg. are tender. If desired, thicken with a paste made of cornstarch and water.
