Cherry bars with drizzled chocolate

Ingredients

  • Crust:
  • 1 1/4 c. butter softened
  • 1 ½ c. sugar
  • 2 c. flour
  • 2 c. quick cooking oatmeal
  • Filling:
  • 1 can (21 oz.) cherry pie filling
  • 1 tsp. almond extract
  • 1 c. semi sweet chocolate chips
  • ¾ tsp. shortening

Preparation

Step 1

Combine butter, sugar, flour and oatmeal. Mix until crumbly. Set aside approx. 2 c. of mixture for topping. Press remaining crumb mixture into an ungreased 9 x 13 pan. Bake for 12-15 minutes at 350 until edges begin to turn light brown.

In a bowl, combine pie filling and extract, carefully spread over crust. Sprinkle with reserved crumb mixture. Bake 20-25 minutes longer or until edges of topping are lightly browned. In a microwave melt chips and shortening; stir until smooth. Drizzle over warm bars.
