Ingredients
- 1 pie crust
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp allspice
- 1 tsp ground ginger
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp pepper
- 3 lbs apples, 12 cups
- 1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
- 2 Tbsp + 1 1/2 cups flour
- 1/2 cup butter melted
- powdered sugar optional
Preparation
Step 1
In bowl combine cinnamon, allspice, ginger, salt and pepper, reserve. In large bowl, toss apples with 1 cup brown sugar, 2 Tbsp flour and 3 3/4 tsp reserved spice mixture until sugar dissolves, reserve.
In medium bowl, combine remaining 1 1/2 cups flour and 1/2 cup brown sugar. Add remaining spice mixture, stir in butter until large crumbs form. Transfer reserved appl mixture to crust, sprinkle evenly with crumbs. Bake 1 hour, 10 minutes or until apples are tender and crumbs are golden brown. If desired, sprinkle with powdered sugar.
