Wisconsin Apple Cake

Ingredients

  • Toping:
  • 1 /2 cup flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 cut shortening
  • 1 egg yoke
  • 2 TBL milk
  • 3 medium apples
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 TBL flour
  • dash salt
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 TBL butter

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven 350 degrees
6 x 16 inch pan
Sift dry ingredients, cut in shortening until mixture resembles course meal. Combine slightly beaten egg yolk and mix milk, add to dry ingredients. Mix lightly. Press pastry into 6x16 inch pan with fingers, bringing it up along sides. Core apples and cut into slices and arrange close together in rows on pastry. Sprinkle with toping and bake in 350 degrees until apples re tender, about 45 minutes.

Topping;
Combine all ingredients and mix in butter until crumbly.
