Creamy Sauce for Shrimp and Grits

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup flour
  • 4 cups chicken broth/stock
  • 1 cup chopped green onions
  • 6 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice or to taste
  • salt to taste
  • hot sauce to taste
  • 4 cups firmly packed fresh baby spinach - optional

Preparation

Step 1

Melt butter in saucepan until it stops sizzling. Whisk in flour; cook for 30 seconds to 1 minute. Whisk in broth/stock and remaining ingredients (except spinach). Cook 2 to 3 minutes until thickened.

Stir in shrimp and spinach; cook 1 minute or until spinach is slightly wilted.

Serve over grits.
