French Onion Soupl

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp Butter
  • 4 onions sliced
  • 1 tbsp flour
  • 1/4 c white wine
  • 5 c cold beef stock
  • 1/2 grated gruyere
  • pinch - thyme, marjoram
  • few drops of tobasco
  • salt & pepper

Preparation

Step 1

- Saute onions in butter for 15 minutes until browning
- stir in flour and cook 2 minutes
- add wine cook 2 minutes
- add stock and herbs - bring to a boil then cook on low partially covered for 20 minutes

Toast bread
- add cheese to bottom of each bowl, cover with soup then add bread - cover with more cheese
- broil for a few minutes at 6 inches from element
