Apple Sauce Fruit Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 cups flour (sifted)
  • 1 lb. raisins
  • 1 lb. nuts
  • 1 cup cherries (candied)
  • 2 cups mixed fruits (candied)
  • 2 cups applesauce
  • 1 tsp. soda (mixed in applesauce)
  • 1/4 tsp each nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves

Preparation

Step 1

Melt butter and add sugar. Mix together until well blended. Add well beaten eggs. Dredge mixed fruits with
half of the flour. Sift togetrher remaining flour, spices and 1/4 tsp salt. Add dry ingredients and applesauce alternately to the butter, sugar and eggs. Add to nuts and fruits. Mix thoroughly. Bake at 300 degrees F. for 4 hours.
