Ingredients
- 10 oz. broccoli, chopped
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 1 1/2 c. half-and-half or light cream
- 1 c. water
- 1 c. chicken broth (or vegetable)
- 2 1/2 c. shredded cheddar cheese
- 4 tbsp. butter
- 5 tbsp. flour
- 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
Preparation
Step 1
In a large sauce pan, melt the butter over low heat. Add the flour. Mix well and then add the liquids. Increase the heat to medium. Allow to cook for a few minutes, stirring often to prevent sticking, until it begins to thicken. Add the broccoli, onion and garlic powder. Allow to cook for an additional 15 minutes. Add the cheese and cook for another 5 minutes. Garnish with additional grated cheese or croutons.
