Ingredients
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1/3 c. sliced celery
- 1/4 c. butter or margarine
- 1 chicken bouillon cube
- 1/4 c. flour
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- dash pepper
- 1 c. water
- 1 c. milk
- 1/2 lb. cooked ham, diced (about 1 1/2 c.)
- 4 medium yams, cooked, peeled and halved or 2 cans (1 lb. each) yams, drained
- 1 pkg. (8 oz.) sliced caraway cheese
Preparation
Step 1
Cook onion and celery in butter until crisp tender. Mix in bouillon cube, flour, salt and pepper. Gradually add water and milk; cook, stirring constantly until sauce boils. Add ham; cook 1 minute. Pour over yams in shallow 2-quart baking dish. Bake in 350 degrees (moderate) oven 10 minutes. Top with cheese; bake 5 minutes longer or until cheese melts. Garnish with parsley, if desired.
