Dani's Famous Apple Pie

Ingredients

  • 5 cups thinly sliced peeled, cored apples
  • 2 tsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 3 tbl all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp grated lemon rind
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • Use with Grandma Eva's Pie Crust Recipe

Preparation

Step 1

In bowl toss apples with lemon juice
In another bowl combine:
sugar, flour, lemon rind, cinnamon and nutmeg

Sprinkle over applies and stir until apples are well-coated.
Spoon apples into pie shell

Cover with pat of butter

Brush edges with egg wash

Place top pie shell over and crimp edged with fingers

Make vents for steam

Brush top shell with cream and sprinkle with sugar before baking in 425F over for 40 minutes or until golden on top

Sometimes I like to lower heat to 375F and cook for 55 minutes to ensure apples are fully softened

May want to cut edge off tin pie plate and cover edges to ensure they don't burn while cooking
