Ingredients

  • 3 Large Potatoes
  • 1 Cup Celery, Diced
  • 1 Cup Onion, Finely Chopped
  • 1 Cup Ham, Diced
  • 3 1/2 Cups of Water
  • 3 Chicken Bouillon Cubes
  • 1 Tsp Salt
  • 1 Tsp Black Pepper
  • 5 Tbsp Butter or Margarine
  • 9 Tbsp Flour
  • 2 1/4 Cups Half and Half

Preparation

Step 1

Combine the potatoes, celery, onion, ham and water in a stockpot. Bring to a boil, then cook over medium heat until potatoes are tender, about 10 to 15 minutes. Stir in the chicken bouillon cubes, salt and pepper.

In a separate saucepan, melt butter over medium-low heat. Whisk in flour with a fork or wire whisk, and cook, stirring constantly until thick, about 1 minute. Slowly stir in half and half so that the lumps do not form. Continue stirring over medium-low heat until thick. Normally between 4 and 5 minutes.

Stir the half and half mixture into the stock pot, and cook until heated through. Serve it while it is hot.
