Sweet and Sour Sauce

Love the sweet and tangy sauce you get from your favorite Chinese takeout? Now it is easy to make at home! Serve with grilled chicken, or make a traditional fried pork and serve with rice.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 2/3 cup pineapple juice
  • 1/3 cup rice vinegar
  • 1/3 cup light brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce

Preparation

Step 1

In a small bowl, whisk together water and cornstarch, and set aside.

Combine pineapple juice, rice vinegar, brown sugar, ketchup, and soy sauce in a small saucepan and bring to a boil. Stir in the cornstarch and water mixture, and cook until thickened, about 1-2 minutes.

Remove from heat and use immediately or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
