Beefy Baked Beans

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground round
  • 1 ½ c chopped onion (about 1 large)
  • 1 c chopped green bell pepper (about 1 medium)
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 2 – 16 oz cans navy beans, drained
  • 1 – 15 ¼ oz can lima beans, drained
  • 2 – 14 ½ oz cans no salt added diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 1 c barbecue sauce
  • ¼ c firmly packed brown sugar
  • 2 TB salt free barbecue spice (such as the Spice Hunter)

Preparation

Step 1

Cook ground round in large nonstick skillet over medium heat until browned, stirring until it crumbles. Drain and pat dry with paper towels.

Combine cooked beef and remaining 9 ingredients in a 4 ½ quart slow cooker. Cover and cook on high heat setting 1 hour. Reduce heat to low setting, and cook 6 to 7 hours.

Yield: 10 servings ( 1 cup each)
