Italian Tomato Sauce

Ingredients

  • 2 (28 oz) cans tomato puree - Muir Glen is best
  • 1 (28 oz) cans peeled plum tomatoes - San Marzano is preferred
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 small onion diced
  • 1/4 c. extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tsp basil
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/4 tsp ground pepper
  • 2 tblsp sugar
  • 1/4 c. grated cheese

Preparation

Step 1

In a large pot, saute onion & garlic in olive oil
Empty plum tomatoes into large bowl & squash with your hands
Add all ingredients including any meatballs or sausage you want to add and simmer
for 3 hours
