Sides, Vegtables: Grandma's Broccoli Cream Cheese Casserole

Ingredients

  • 2 10 oz. packages frozen broccoli
  • 2 cups frozen whole small white onions
  • 4 T. butter or margarine
  • 2 T flour
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • dash of pepper
  • 1 1/2 c. milk
  • 2 3 oz. packages of cream cheeese, cut up
  • 1 cup of bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Preparation

Step 1

Cook broccoli according to package directions; drain. Cook onions in boiling salted water until tender, about 10 minutes; drain. In saucepan, melt 2 tablespoons of the butter, blend in flour, salt and pepper. Add milk all at once; cook and stir constantly until thick and bubbly. Reduce heat, blend in cream cheese unti smooth. Stir in vegtables, pour all into 1 1/2 quart casserole. Bake in 350 degree oven for 20 minutes. Melt remaining butter, toss with bread crumbs and Parmesan cheese. Sprinkle crumbs over casserole, bake 15 minutes more.
