Cherry-Pecan Gems

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Flour
  • 1 tsp Baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp Cream of tartar
  • 1 cup Margarine
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1 Egg
  • 2 T Maraschino cherry syrup
  • 1/4 tsp Almond extract
  • A few drops red food coloring
  • 1 cup finely chopped pecans
  • Red maraschino cherries, halved

Preparation

Step 1

1. Combine flour, soda, cream of tartar, and 1/4 tsp. salt.

2. Beat margarine 30 seconds. Add sugar; beat until well combined. Beat in egg, syrup, extract, and food coloring.

3. Add dry ingredients and beat until blended. Stir in pecans.

4. Shape into two 9 inch rolls. Wrap in plastic wrap; chill throughly.

5. Cut into 1/4 inch slices. Place on ungreased cookie sheet.

6. Lightly press a drained cherry in center of each.

7. Bake at 375° for 10-12 minutes. Cool.
