2016 Ham and Macaroni au Gratin

Ingredients

  • 5 oz. elbow macaroni
  • 1 Tbsp. butter
  • 1/2 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 1 Tbsp. flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • cayenne pepper--pinch
  • salt and pepper
  • 2 cups diced cooked ham
  • 1 cup thawed frozen peas

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 400 degrees..
Cook macaroni according to directions. Drain and return to pan, set aside
Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add onion, cook 2 min. Stir in flour, cook 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Gradually stir in milk. Cook until thick enough to coat the back of a spoon. Remove from heat. Add cheese, stirring until melted. stir in nutmeg, cayenne and salt and pepper to taste. Mix remaining ingredients and pasta. Pour into greased 1 qt. baking dish. Bake 10 minutes or until bubbly.
