CHUNKY APPLESAUCE

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs tart apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
  • 2/3-1 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup apple cider or juice
  • 2 tblsp butter
  • 1 1/2 tblsp fresh lemon juice or to taste
  • 1/2 - 1 tsp cinnamon

Preparation

Step 1

Place apple slices in 12 inch skillet over very low heat and let sweat about 2 minutes. Increase heat to high and add remaining ingredients. Bring to rolling boil, stirring gently, then reduce heat, cover and simmer until apples have softened but still retain shape and slight firmness. Taste and adjust seasoning. Remove from heat and keep warm. (If not using tartlets, cover and refrigerate until ready to use.)
