Apple Pie (Older Betty Crocker Recipe Adjusted)

This recipe has reduced sugar and flour. The crust has a hint of tartness from the vinegar and is light and flakey from the egg.

Ingredients

  • Apple Pie Filling:
  • Pastry - Top and Bottom Pie Crust
  • 2 cups flour
  • 3/4 cup Crisco
  • 2 tbsp cold water
  • 1 tbsp white vinegar
  • 1 egg
  • Cut flour with Crisco. Mix egg, white vinegar and water. Pour egg mixture into the flour/crisco
  • 8 Macintosh apple or similar
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. nutmeg
  • 2 tbsp. butter

Preparation

Step 1

Heat oven to 350.
Prepare apple filling first then prepare pastry.

1.) Apple Filling; Stir together sugar, flour and spices. Mix with apples.
2.) Pastry: Prepare pastry as above and split the ball in half. Roll out one ball and line the pie pan.
3.) Spoon the pie filling into the pastry filled pie plate and put butter on top of the filling.
4.) Roll out the second ball of pastry and cover the filling with this top crust. Seal the edges and make a few slits in the crust.
5.) Cover edge with foil to prevent excessive browning.
6.) Bake 40 to 50 minutes or until crust is brown and juice begins to bubble thru slits in crust.
