Christmas Breakfast Sausage Casserole

My notes: I have made this many times and it always turns out great. You can replace the white bread with wheat.

Ingredients
- 1 lb ground pork sausage
- 6 slices white bread, toasted and cut into cubes
- 1/2 lb shredded mild Cheddar cheese
- 1 tsp mustard powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 4 eggs, beaten
- 2 cups milk
Preparation
Step 1
Crumble sausage into a medium skillet. Cook over medium heat until evenly browned; drain.
In a medium bowl, mix together cooked sausage, toasted bread, cheese, mustard powder, salt, eggs and milk. Pour into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish. Cover, and chill in the refrigerator 8 hours, or overnight.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Cover, and bake 45 to 60 minutes. Uncover and reduce temperature to 325 degrees. Bake for an additional 30 minutes, or until set.
Bobbi Barlow’s version….
½ loaf bread-diced (toasting helps keep bread from sticking together when dicing)
2 lb sausage-cooked
12 eggs
¾ cup milk
1 tsp dry mustard
3 cups grated cheese
1 can Cream of Mushroom soup
½ can milk
Spread bread in the bottom of 9x13 pan (well greased)
Mix sausage, eggs, milk and dry mustard. Pour over bread and refrigerate overnight.
Sprinkle with cheese then spread soup/milk mixture over cheese.
Bake in a 350 degree oven for 40-45 minutes.
