Cabbage Burgers

Ingredients

  • Filling:
  • 1 lb hamburger, lean
  • 3 cups shredded cabbage
  • 1/2 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1/2 tsp Accent or MSG
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • Dough:
  • 1 pkg dry yeast
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 3/4 cup milk, scalded and cooled to lukewarm
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tb melted shortening
  • 2 cups flour

Preparation

Step 1

Filling:

Brown burger lightly and drain off excess grease. Add cabbage,onions, seasonings, and water. Simmer uncovered for 20 minutes or until there is no juice left and then let cool.

Dough:

Add yeast and sugar to warm water and let stand 5 minutes. Blend in milk, salt, shortening, and flour to form soft dough. Let raise in warm place approx. 30 minutes.

Roll dough out on floured surface to 1/4 inch thick and cut in 5 inch squares.

Fill each square with meat mixture and fold corners together to form a dough pocket. Place in baking pan and let raise for 20 minutes. Bake for 30 minutes at 375 degrees.
