Fried Okra

Ingredients

  • okra
  • cornmeal
  • egg
  • water
  • salt
  • pepper
  • chili powder
  • vegetable oil

Preparation

Step 1

Wash okra. Trim off the ends. Slice in 1/4 inch slices.

Crack egg into a small bowl. Add about 1/2 cup of water. Use a fork to mix together.

In another small bowl, fill the bowl 1/2 way with cornmeal. Mix in 1 tsp of salt, 1/2 tsp of pepper, and 1 tsp of chili powder.

Fill a frying pan half full with vegetable oil, and heat on medium high heat. When the oil is hot, first dip okra slices in egg wash and then in cornmeal. Tap off excess cornmeal and put the okra into the frying pan. Fry until golden brown, turning if needed. Remove okra and drain on paper towels.
