Ingredients
- 2 lbs granny smith apples
- 2 lbs braeburn apples
- 1 tsp. cinn.
- 3/4 c sugar
- 1/2 c butter
- 1 c firmly packed light brown sugar
- 1 (14.1 oz) pkg. refrigerated piecursts
- 1 egg white
- 1 tbs sugar
Preparation
Step 1
Peel apples & cut into 1/2 " wedges. Toss apples with cinn. & 1/4 c. sugar
Melt butter in a 10" cast-iron skillet over med. heat. add brown sugar & cook stirring constantly. 1-2 min or until sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and place 1 piecrust in skillet over brown sugar mixture. Spoon apple mix over the piecrust & top with remaining piecrust. Whisk egg white until foamy. Brush top of piecrust with egg white, sprinkle with 2 tbs. sugar Cut 4 or 5 slits in top for steam to escape. Bake for 1 hr to 1 hr & 10 min or till golden brown & bubbly shielding with alum. foil diring last 10 min to prevent excessive browning. Cool & serve with ice cream
