Jewish Apple Cake

Ingredients

  • 5 cooking apples
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 1/3 cups sugar, divided
  • 1 cup margarine
  • 4 eggs
  • 3 cups flour
  • 3 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/3 cup orange juice
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tsp almond
  • 1 large bar hershey’s special chocolate, chopped

Preparation

Step 1

Peel, quarter, core and slice apples. Combine with cinnamon and 1/3 cup sugar.

In mixing bowl, combine margarine and remaining 2 cups sugar. Cream at medium speed until fluffy. Add eggs 1 at a time, mixing well after each addition.

Stir together flour baking powder and salt. Add to batter. Add juice and extracts. Continue mixing until batter is smooth.

Place small amount of batter in bottom of greased and floured 10” tube pan. Arrange layer of apple slices and chopped chocolate over batter. Continue layering ending with batter.

Bake at 350 for 1 ½ hours.
