Baked Apple Doughnuts

Great doughnuts, healthy as they are baked not fried.

Be sure to double & even triple recipe as they disappear so fast.

Ingredients

  • Sift together:
  • 1-1/2 cup flour
  • 1-3/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • Add:
  • 1/3 cup Crisco
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped apples
  • Topping:
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 tsp cinnamon

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350

1. Sift flour, baking powder, salt, nutmeg & sugar, set aside.
2. Cut in shortening until mixture looks like coarse cornmeal. Set aside.
3. Beat egg with milk.
4. Add to dry ingredients until just blended. Add apples.
5. Spoon into muffin pan lined with cups or greased cups. Fill 2/3 full.
6. Bake 20-25 minutes or until done.
7. Melt 1/2 butter and set aside.
8. Combine 1/2 sugar and cinnamon mixing well.
9. Remove doughnuts immediately from muffin pan.
10. Roll in butter mixture coating evenly.
11. Then roll in sugar/cinnamon mixture.
12. Cool on wire racks.

Note: use either regular cupcake pans or if you want donut hole size use mini cupcake pans to yield approximately 30 minis.
