The Shipp family's oatmeal cookies are a classic recipe. Chewy, sweet but not too sweet, and just the right amount of salt make them irresistible.

Ingredients
- 3/4 cup shortening
- 1 1/4 cups firmly packed brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/3 cup milk
- 3 cups quick oats
- 1 cup flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

Preparation
Step 1
Heat oven to 375°F.
Beat shortening, brown sugar, egg, vanilla, and milk until creamed.
Then add oats, flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon. Mix at low speed just until blended.
Drop rounded tablespoonfuls of mixture unto cookie sheet. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes.
NOTE:
We add different extras to the cookie base, this time we did milk chocolate chips and toasted coconut and they were really yummy. Add your favorite extras!
