Ingredients
- 2 gallons cucumbers cut-up
- 2 gallons water
- 2 pints salt
- Alum
- vinegar
- 1 box pickeling spices
Preparation
Step 1
Mix water and salt, heat to boiling and pour over cucumbers. Let set 1 week stirring every day.
Drain water from cucumbers, rinse, pour clear water (boiling) over cucumbers and let stand over night.
Drain water off mix 2 gals water with 4 tablespoons Alum. Heat until boiling, pour over cucumbers. let stand 24 hours.
Drain off Alum water. Heat 15 lbs sugar, 1 gal vinegar, 1 box pickling spices, put spices in clean white cloth and put in bottum of crock. Add cucumbers on top, boil sugar and vinegar, pour over pickles.
Drain vinegar mixture 4 days in a row, heating to boiling each time. Place bag in bottom each time. Add 1 cup sugar each time you heat pickles.
