Sweedish Nuts

A Christmas time favorite

Ingredients

  • 1 lb walnuts or pecans
  • 1 cup sugar
  • dash of salt
  • 2 stiff beaten egg whites ( No yolks)
  • 1/2 cup butter

Preparation

Step 1

Toast nuts in a slow oven ( 325) till light brown -- about 20 minutes. Fold sugar and a dash of salt into the egg whites. Beat until very stiff. Fold nuts into this mixutre.

Melt butter in a large baking pan -- jelly roll pan is good size. Spread nut mixutre over butter and bake in a slow oven (325) for about 30 minutes. Stirr every 10 minutes . The nuts will absorb the butter -- watch closely and when butter is gone the mixture should be done. Store in an airtight container.
Makes about 4 cups.
