Ingredients
- 2 3/4 cups all purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking soda
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 1/2 tsp ground ginger
- 1 1/2 tsp ground cloves
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup softened butter
- 1 egg
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/4 cup molasses
Preparation
Step 1
Sift the flour. Add baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves and salt. Mix well and set aside.
In a separate bowl, cream the butter. Add the egg, brown sugar and molasses. Mix to a smooth paste.
Slowly add the dry ingredients. Mix well. Refrigerate the cookie dough for one hour.
Preheat oven to 350F.
On a floured surface, roll out the dough to a thickness of 1/4 inch. Cut out the cookies in the desired shape using a cookie cutter and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Cook 10 to 12 minutes or until cookies are firm. Cooking time will vary with cookie thickness.
Allow to cool and decorate as desired.
