macaroni and cheese adapted recipe

Ingredients

  • 2.24 kg whole wheat uncooked elbow macaroni
  • 8 onions
  • 1/2 lb butter
  • 1 c whole wheat flour
  • 5 litres of 2% milk
  • 24 c marble cheese grated
  • 32 slices deli ham
  • 8 cucumbers

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350. Cook macaroni as directed on package. Meanwhile, cook onions in butter in a large saucepan on medium heat for 3 mins or until tender, stirring occasionally. Add flour, cook and stir for 1 min. Add milk, cook 5 mins, stirring constantly. Reduce heat to low, simmer for 10 mins. Remove from heat. Stir in the cheese, leave a reserve amount for addition at the end, and the chopped deli ham. Drain macaroni. Add to cheese sauce, toss to coat. Spoon into greased casserole dish, sprinkle with remaining cheese.
