Ingredients
- Topping:
- 3/4 C flour
- 3/4 whole wheat flour
- 1/2 C sugar
- 1/2 c chopped slivered almonds
- 2 t baking powder
- 1/2 t salt
- 1/4 t nutmeg
- 1/4 t allspice
- 1/4 C sweet butter, melted
- 1/2 C milk
- 1 egg, slightly beaten
- 1/2 t almond extract
- 1 11oz. can mandarin oranges
- 3 T sweet butter, melted
- 1/3 C sugar
- 1/2 t cinnamon
Preparation
Step 1
1. Combine both flours, 1/2 C sugar, almonds, baking powder, salt, nutmeg and allspice. In separate bowl, stir together 1/4 C sweet butter, milk, egg, and almond extract. Stir butter mixture into flour mixture until moist. Gently stir in oranges.
2. Spoon batter into 12 greased muffin cups. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until light brown.
3. Place 3 T melted sweet butter in small bowl. In separate bowl, mix sugar and cinnamon together. While muffins are still warm, dip tops in butter then sugar and cinnamon. Serve warm.
