Ingredients

  • ¾

    C flour

  • ¾

    whole wheat flour

  • ½

    C sugar

  • ½

    c chopped slivered almonds

  • 2

    t baking powder

  • ½

    t salt

  • ¼

    t nutmeg

  • ¼

    t allspice

  • ¼

    C sweet butter, melted

  • ½

    C milk

  • 1

    egg, slightly beaten

  • ½

    t almond extract

  • 1

    11oz. can mandarin oranges

  • Topping:

  • 3

    T sweet butter, melted

  • C sugar

  • ½

    t cinnamon

Directions

1. Combine both flours, 1/2 C sugar, almonds, baking powder, salt, nutmeg and allspice. In separate bowl, stir together 1/4 C sweet butter, milk, egg, and almond extract. Stir butter mixture into flour mixture until moist. Gently stir in oranges. 2. Spoon batter into 12 greased muffin cups. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until light brown. 3. Place 3 T melted sweet butter in small bowl. In separate bowl, mix sugar and cinnamon together. While muffins are still warm, dip tops in butter then sugar and cinnamon. Serve warm.
